Similar to Apple’s iMessage, Kal-Messages is a closed loop messaging platform. However, instead of using either a telephone number, or email address – anyone wishing to enable Kal-Messages must have an NIN from the Kaldan government. Once done, the user can setup a KCI-ID account, and use their KCI-ID as their messages number. This will allow someone to provide their KCI-ID without providing their telephone number. The choice of not using the NIN (which will make more sense) is for privacy. Anyone knowing your NIN will be able to contact you immediately. In addition, knowing the NIN will also know the likely telephone number.
If the person that you wish to message to doesn’t have a KCI-ID, and a supporting device, then the only other option will be to use the person’s telephone number, and either use RCS, or SMS to communicate. Kal-Messages are always blue. RCS is red, and SMS is green. This distinction might be important if one of the parties have to pay for international SMS messages. In that case, they will need to use Kal-Messages, or RCS. The colors will show distinction of what kind of message it is without needing multiple applications.
