K-Office

K-Office is an office suite developed by KCI exclusively for their computers. K-Office as the name implies is an office suite. The suite will support Open Document Format for file extensions. In addition, a K-Office document can be saved as .pdf, although you would want to have an editable format file for that document if you wish to edit it in the future. This is because while K-Office can save in .pdf, it can’t edit .pdf files as that is something that only Adobe Acrobat is designed to do. K-Office has the following apps:

  • CAD – Computer Aided Drafting Program
  • Database – MySQL Database Application
  • Diagrams – Diagram Software
  • Notepad – Note taking software
  • Presentation – Presentation Program
  • Spreadsheet – Spreadsheet Program
  • Writer – Word Processor

While the default format is Open Document Format, the office suite will also work MS Office files, and will be able to edit and save in them. However, fonts may not be the same as Microsoft uses their own created fonts for Office applications. Also, some macros maybe disabled to protect the integrity of the computer.

A nice thing about K-Office that is pretty much standard is the ability to create templates. By creating templates, one could make a letter document with their own letterhead. K-Office will also make it easier to modify a template without the need to create a new template, and delete the old one. Instead, K-Office will warn you that you are about to change a template, and will prompt twice about making sure you would want to edit the template.
