K-IRC is an Internet Relay Chat client. You would log into a server, and go to a particular room with other like minded individuals. There will also be Private Messages (Whisper) where one can communicate with someone else without everyone in the room reading the message. Private Messages will be given its own tab so there is no accidentally sending a message to the room that was intended for a private message. K-IRC will also support different servers, and adding the server to a list of connections that the user can choose from.
